Upton National School was in Union Street between St Mary Magdalene Church and the old Torquay Hospital. It closed in 1938. After service during World war 2 as the Head Wardens Post and the local food office, the building was partially demolished and the new Court House was built on the old basement. The war memorial which was on the south wall of the old school was placed on the wall of the new parish hall when that was built in 1956.

"To the memory and in honour of The boys of this school who made the supreme Sacrifice in the great War"

"Their name liveth for evermore"
