TORQUAY'S CHURCHES
And Other Places of Worship
So far I have identified over 60 places of worship in Torquay, these include the Church of England Parish churches, Roman Catholic Churches, Methodist, Wesleyan, Bible Christian and some smaller groups or sects.
In an attempt to record these, I have started to photograph the various building (if they still survive). Where the buildings have disappeared I will continue to try and find postcards or other photos.
I must give many thanks to David Mason for allowing me to reproduce many of the older pictures from his extensive collection.
There are still some chapels and churches I have not been able to find pictures of;-
All Saints, Tor - the temporary building which was replaced by the current church
St Michaels & All Angels - Pimlico, it was an extremely difficult church to photograph because of its closed in position, although I have an interior view.
St Matthews, Chelston - the temporary church in Solsbro Road, which was replaced by the current church
St Marys Mission Church in Braddons Street
St Stephens Mission Church in Swan Street
St George’s
Wesleyan Chapel
in Fore Street, Watcombe- Photo found, with thanks to Roger Thorne
Elim Chapel in Princes Road, Ellacombe- Photos now available see below
The Avenue Mission Hall in Belgrave Road
The Bible Christian Chapel in Warberry Vale, Ellacombe
One of the earliest non-conformist chapels- the chapel in the meadow (Swan Street area)
If you can help at all with any of these or any others that you find are missing I would be very grateful
